Thousand of people are flocking to Columbus to check out the 163rd Ohio State Fair. Governor John Kasich, his family and other state officials opened the state fair this morning. This year the fair has over 190 food vendors, from banana cream pie ice cream to shrimp kabobs, there's a little something for everyone to enjoy. The Ohio Department of Agriculture inspectors were also busy this week getting the 76 rides ready for opening day. Officials with the fair say, as always, it's a great time for the whole family.
"The Ohio State Fair brings together so many different elements, whether you're looking at the livestock competitions and youth development, agriculture, rides, entertainment, educational opportunities for youth, I mean there's something for everyone and I didn't even get into food," said Alicia Shoults, the Marketing and PR Director for the fair.Â
The fair runs from now until August 7th. Admission is ten dollars for adults and six dollars pre-sale, but the director says they are constantly running ticket specials so make sure to check for deals.
