Pink Superheroes Campaign for Breast Cancer

St. Rita's and Alter Ego Comics teamed up to show that breast cancer awareness and prevention can start with a pink cape.

A group of superheroes visited three local hair salons, including Beauty by Jill Salon and Spa.  They were there to give out special pink capes that read "Have you been checked?" to remind salon-goers to be routinely checking for breast cancer.  The message is flipped so that it will be able to be read normally in a mirror.

St. Rita's tried to think of a way to get the word out while doing something that would stick in people's minds this October.

"Anybody can hand out a brochure, anybody can tell you to get checked, but I think this campaign really brings a bold statement to mammography and getting checked and it really raises awareness within the community, so we're getting out here, spreading that message in a unique and fun way," said Courtney O'Banion, Communications Coordinator, St. Rita's Health Partners.

People are encouraged to share their stories of breast cancer on St. Rita's Facebook page; just use the hashtag "#pinksuperhero".
