Pipe collapse cause delay on Jameson Avenue construction

An unforeseen accident may delay construction on Jameson Avenue.

According to Lima city officials, a week ago a 54-inch pipe collapsed setting the project back. The large diameter sewer relining project is one of several planned to reline some sewer pipes and increase the life of the pipes. The plan is to reline several thousand feet of pipe in Lima, but the project around Jameson will be going slower than expected.

"Now we've got to get a contractor in there and fix the section and replace the section that is collapsed," said Mike Caprella, utilities director. "Unfortunately it's going to mean that Jameson Avenue is going to be closed probably for, I'm just guesstimating here, another month or so. It won't be open at the end of the week like we thought it would be."

The collapse is similar to a pipe collapse on Grand Avenue earlier this year,  but not as large of a pipe collapsed this time around.
