SHELBY COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning fatal crash in Shelby County.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash happened just after 2 a.m. Friday morning near milepost 68 on I-75.
Law enforcement has not released the name of the driver killed until the next of kin can be notified.
They say that they were driving north when their vehicle drove off the right side of the road and hit a semi that was stopped on the shoulder. The driver of the semi was not hurt, and the crash remains under investigation.
October 11, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: Orange Township, Shelby County - The Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Interstate 75 northbound near mile post 86 in Shelby County at approximately 2:17 a.m. Upon arriving on scene, troopers discovered that a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee was northbound on Interstate 75 and drove off the right side of the roadway. As the Jeep drove off the roadway, it struck a 2013 Freightliner Cascadia tractor trailer, driven by Ahmed of Columbus, Ohio, that was stopped on the right shoulder.
As a result of the crash, the driver of the Jeep was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The driver's name is not being released at this time pending next-of-kin notification. Mr. Omar did not report any injuries. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
Troopers from the Piqua Post were assisted on scene by Sidney Fire and EMS, Shelby County Coroner's Office, and Wrecker's Towing.
