For those who wanted a White Christmas, it looks like you got your wish. But if you're heading out, worry not - the roads in Lima are being taken care of.
The snow may look beautiful, but on the roads, it can make your commute dangerous. That's why the city plows are out and workers have been taking extra steps to be sure that drivers can make it to their destination without too much trouble.
"We started early with salting the streets; when you put salt down on the streets before a lot of the snow, then when the snow hits, it’ll melt," said Warner Roach, the Lima Deputy Public Works Director, Street Div. "This morning and afternoon we’ve been salting, and anything over an inch we go ahead and drop a plow - if you plow and salt at the same time, it really saves us work."
It may be tempting to drive quickly to get to where ever you may be heading, but it's important to remember that the roads aren't as easy to drive on when they're covered in ice and snow - and to give slow plows plenty of room as they are working.
"Folks get out there and they just want to rush, they fly through stop signs and that’s how accidents happen - we certainly don’t want to see anybody get hurt, so number one is slow down," Roach said. "Those plows have an adjustment and they move, and they want to try to clear the roads as much as possible. Sometimes folks, if they’re going too fast, and they hit the brakes, those things are harder to stop than people realize."
The plows will be out around the clock making sure that the roads stay safe for all of your holiday activities.
