Potholes..increasing problems, decreasing revenue

Spring like temperatures have been welcomed with open arms by almost everyone…except county road crews, who say that these warmer temperatures are actually wreaking havoc on the roads.

Warmer temperatures allow moisture to soak into the pavement. Then when cold temperatures return, the water freezes and pops, causing even more potholes. In between these winter storms, crews are out filling in potholes with a cold mix, a temporary fix to fix a growing problem.

"It's only going to get worse due to our inflation and our decrease in revenue every year we have less and less money to spend on our pavement and as our asphalt gets older and older, allowing them to be even more pours and absorb more moisture into the pavement," says Allen County Engineer, Brion Rhodes.

Rhodes says that there are so many potholes that they can’t get to all of them right now, but they will eventually.
