Procter and Gamble took time out of their day to celebrate a golden anniversary.
The company held a parking lot party to celebrate 50 years of operation in the Lima area. They first set up shop on Reservoir Rd. back in 1968 and since then they have been able to expand their campus and now ship products all over the world. The first employee hired to work at the Lima facility retired in 1990 and he still looks back fondly on his 22 years at the plant.
"Here you could make suggestions and be innovative and they'd even a lot of times tell you to do it, says Robert Williams, Jr., 91, of Alger. "You didn't have somebody else come in and do it, you could do it yourself and see the results of what you did."
Procter and Gambles say that without the hundreds of dedicated greater Lima area employees like Williams, they would not be able to do what they do and they are looking forward to more years of quality work in Lima.
"We provide consumers with an exceptional value, high-quality product, and at the end of the day we provide our workforce with an opportunity to grow," says Robert Rutty, Site Human Resource Leader. "Generations of families work here and that really makes a difference to know that you've been doing it for 50 years and you'll be able to do it for another 50 years and more beyond."
The Lima plant produces many fabric care products including Tide and Downy.
