OTTAWA, Ohio (WLIO) - Putnam County is looking at ways of improving the health of their residents.
The health department released their Community Health Improvement Plan and they invited their partners to discuss issues and areas the county will be working on over the next three years. They are focused on three areas, which are improving community conditions, like social isolation and interpersonal violence, raising awareness to mental health and substance abuse services, and helping residents develop healthy behaviors and stay on top of chronic disease.
"Some different things we're doing for the chronic diseases and healthy behaviors, and we want to improve access to some screenings," said Sherri Recker, director of Nursing & Health Promotions. "That can be blood pressure screenings, diabetes screenings, and we were seeing that our community was needing a little more of that so that they can take those proactive steps with their healthcare provider to intervene before it becomes a bigger issue for them."

Recker says the Putnam County Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Board is working on an online mental health and addiction screening to help people see if they need help.
That is expected to be released in about a year.
