Friday (1/19/18) was all about the money for 8th graders at Bath Middle School
Superior Credit Union and the Allen County Ohio State University Extension Office held their annual "Real Money, Real World" Financial Education day. Eighth grade students were assigned different family and job situations and then go booth-to-booth making decisions and seeing what kind of financial challenges adults may face. Bath High School Family and Consumer Sciences teacher Jennifer Brachok says it is a valuable tool to show kids just what their parents may be facing.
"Several things, how they do in school, how that's going to reflect on their income someday and their education and what they need to do," says Brachok. "Also, I think it helps them to appreciate their parents a little more because they realize how much things cost."
Students also get early exposure to managing their money through budgets at the event.
