LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Dog tags can go a long way in protecting your four-legged friend if they were to get lost. There are many cases where a dog was reunited with its owners' thanks to the dog wearing a tag. Many forget to get dog tags and the Allen County Dog Warden is reminding residents that while you may think you not need it, look at the law, because it’s a requirement.
"Well in general, it’s a state law,” says Julie Shellhammer, Allen County Dog Warden. “Everybody has to have a dog tag for their dog over three months of age. So you have thirty days within getting the dog or moving into our county to purchase the dog tags. They can be purchased at our office, or online, mail it in, mail the information in, they are $22. They have been that price for eight or nine years, a very long time, one of the few things that have not actually gone up!"
You can purchase dog tags at the county auditor’s office or the dog warden’s office. If you have any questions about the dog tags, contact the Allen County Dog Warden's Office. You have until the end of January to get your dog tags.
