A semi hit by a train destroyed part of a business in Coldwater.
According to the Coldwater Fire Department, just before noon Thursday a semi traveling on Main Street in Coldwater failed to yield to a train sign, causing a train to strike the semi on its side -- and then into MR. Shoppe -- causing damage to the south side of the building.
The driver of the semi was not injured during the collision. Workers were inside the business at the time but did not sustain any injuries.
"Train was going through the tracks and he didn't stop for the lights, and the train pushed the train into the semi into the building standing behind us," said Dave Penno, Coldwater Fire Chief. "Just a reminder that these tracks are still active in this area. So if you see lights, remember to stop and look for a train first, before moving into the intersection."
The Coldwater fire chief expects crews to be working to clear debris from the accident for an extended period of time.
