Shawnee Sales Clerks Face Misdemeanor Charges Following Underage Alcohol Sales

Sales clerks at three different Shawnee establishments face misdemeanor charges after underage compliance investigations.

On Friday, May 20th the Shawnee Township Police Department worked with an 18 year old to conduct compliance investigations with liquor permit holders throughout Shawnee.

Of the seven locations involved, one sales clerk at the Pony Keg, one at the Short Stop Drive Thru, and one at Low Bob's Discount Tobacco, all on Shawnee Road, were charged with underage sales, which is a first degree misdemeanor.

Police Chief Michael Keith says they met with representatives of each establishment before the investigation to remind them it's illegal to sell or serve alcohol to anyone under 21 years old. "We did visit all of our liquor permit holders in the area and gave them a copy of the law and a letter that we're asking for their cooperation with graduation and prom season," said Chief Keith, "Actually we do that each year, we don't really say when we're going to be out doing compliance checks but we do tell them what they can and can't do, and we ask for their cooperation in helping us."

Keith says this is not the first time they have approached establishments and conducted compliance investigations.
