LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Perry Commodores stepped out of the classroom on Friday to explore farming and agriculture during the school’s annual Ag Day.

During Perry’s Ag Day, students in kindergarten through 12th grade traveled to various stations, where they met farm animals up close, including cows, horses and goats. Farm machinery was also on site, giving students a chance to climb on and explore the equipment.

This year’s event carries added significance for Perry Schools, which launched its first agriculture program this school year. Teachers and students say the program has enhanced learning at the student-led Ag Day.

"Our new Ag Program is definitely going to help get a lot of kids' foot in the door with doing the commodity testing and just learning about the animal science, the animal system, plant science- just to give them an idea of where everything comes from and why it's so important to our community," says Emma Lehman, FFA President & Junior at Perry High School.

Ag Day has been a Perry tradition for several years.
