Many are still sluggish from over indulging in Fat Tuesday treats, but some Delphos community members were ready to run it off, along with their ashes.
Delphos St. Johns held their 4th annual Run Your Ashes Off 5K benefiting the St. Vincent DePaul Society. The run started off with a prayer service and the giving of ashes. Ash Wednesday, one of the most important holy days in the Catholic Liturgical calendar opens the season of Lent, a season of fasting and prayer. When the priest applies ashes to a persons forehead, he speaks the words: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
Despite the cold, windy weather, the event brought over 100 people together for a good cause on Ash Wednesday.
