A special prosecutor has been brought in to investigate to see if any criminal offenses were committed by Hilty Memorial Nursing Home during the death of an elderly woman in January.
Debra Wehrle, Senior Assistant Attorney General with the Ohio Attorney General's Office, has been approved as the special prosecuting attorney to handle the case, after the results of a police investigation into the January 7th death of Phyllis Campbell, a 76-year-old resident of Hilty Memorial Home. Campbell suffered from dementia and was found frozen to death. The Putnam County Prosecutor's Office asked the special prosecutor to be brought in to handle the investigation.
According to the investigation, Campbell died from hypothermia after wandering into the courtyard at the facility through an open door. She wasn't found for nearly 8 hours after she walked outside.
