Keynote speaker Jon Petz joined the Bearcats staff in welcoming another school year with his inspiring speeches and interactive exercises. Petz is a Columbus, Ohio, native, and along with his experience as a keynote speaker, he is also a magician and performed several magic tricks with lessons embedded in them for the staff to take away. Petz also emphasized to the staff that they play a critical role in the development of the students, and they need to know the value they have in the students lives and the value the students can have in theirs.
Spencerville Local Schools' first day of school will be next Wednesday, August 28th.
"I think that many times when we think of a school district, we think of only the educators. What I love is this was the transportation; this was custodial; this was food service; this was administration; everyone's here. And because they're not always student-facing as much as some educators are then they think, 'Oh, but I'm not as valuable.' So I wanted every single person to know how big of an impact they can make in a student's day. And because of that, then the community and the district," said Jon Petz, keynote speaker, author, CEO, and magician.
"It just makes a big difference when you have a motivational speaker come to kickoff because you're all kind of thinking, 'Ugh, summers over,' and now I'm ready. I'm ready to get back in my classroom and get things started. I'm ready to think about the kids that are in the classroom and what significance this year might play for them as we talk about government and all those kinds of things. Jon said something about 'keeping it simple,' but it can be impactful, and so just using those moments with the kids," said Harmony Brenneman, social studies teacher at Spencerville High School.
"It was the perfect way to start a school year. Motivated, feeling valued, feeling inspired, and just being aware of those moments with our kids because they matter," said Suzanne Lyons, Spencerville kindergarten teacher.
