Talking about organ donation

With a growing need for organ donations both locally and nationally, Lifeline of Ohio and St. Rita's decided to ease some of the fears surrounding organ donation.

The speakers talked about the organ donation process and answered questions about being an organ donor.  Highlighted in the talk were the number of people waiting for organ donations nationally, around 121,000 people per day. Organ donations can be a tricky subject, that's why it's important to know all of the ins and outs of organ donation before saying "yes" at the DMV.

"The thing is you need to know why there's a need for organ donation, what are the myths, what are the facts, that's what we want to clear up," said Deann Heiing, Clinical Manager of the ICU and CVICU for St. Rita's.  "If you made that decision ahead of time when you go to the DMV, if something would happen to you, then your family does not have to make a decision at that catastrophic time, they would know that you wanted to be a hero and donate your organs ahead of time."

You can contact Lifeline of Ohio or local health agencies for more information about organ donation.
