Three people were injured in a two-car accident on Wapak Road early Thursday evening (3/28/19).
Shawnee Township Police say a 24-year-old male was turning southbound onto Wapak Road from S.R. 117 when he lost control of his vehicle due to excessive speed. The car fish-tailed and went left-of-center, driving head-on into an SUV driven by a couple in their 50s. The couple was taken to Lima Memorial Hospital and the 24-year-old was taken to Mercy Health St. Rita's, all for treatment of minor injuries, but according to police those injuries could've easily been much worse, had they been going faster.
"Seatbelts, airbags, and obviously, lower speeds result in minor injuries," said Sgt. Rob Kohli. "I think around 35 miles-per-hour for both parties is what we're estimating."
Kohli said had they been going faster, it could have easily turned into a fatal crash. The 24-year-old male was cited for reasonable control.
Shawnee Fire aided on the scene and American Township Fire and EMS helped transport the injured parties.
