FINDLAY, OH (WLIO) - Kids learned all about animals and their habitats at the Mazza Museum's final Sunday Funday of this school year.
The University of Findlay usually hosts the last Sunday Funday at the Toledo Zoo, but this year they decided to keep it local and bring the animals to the kids instead. There was a petting zoo, several more animals inside, like tortoises and a hedgehog, and plenty of craft activities. Kids learned about things like endangered species and why it's important not to touch an animal's nest. The free monthly program aims to get kids excited to learn something new in a STEM-related subject.
"What we try to do is make it more interactive so they remember it, right? Every child learns differently, so we want to submerse them in the theme, but they don't even realize they're learning. And I think you'll see that light click on sometimes, and then they'll talk about it later," said Heather Sensel, the Mazza Museum's education manager.
The museum also has summer camps available to young students, and some may even qualify for financial aid.
