The Van Wert Airport has opened bids for a new taxiway on the grounds.
The airport is currently in the process of a total update of their facilities. They plan on extending the runway 1,000 ft and on moving operations from the north to the south side of the airfield where they will build a new maintenance hangar and a new terminal big enough to fit larger jets. Airport Manager Steve Bailey says the changes have been a long time coming and hopefully they will be good for business in the Van Wert area.
"We're trying to promote Van Wert," says Bailey. "There's a lot of new things happening and some businesses have looked at Van Wert in the past and I think right now, and with them, they'll bring in planes and so we need to have a good airport."
Bailey says that if all continues to go well, the updates could be completed as soon as summer of 2019.
