WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Wapakoneta Service Club held its 51st annual Chili Day dinner Thursday.

People stopped by throughout the day to grab a bowl of chili made from the club’s original recipe, a hot dog and a homemade dessert. Club members and Wapakoneta High School students volunteered to prepare chili and serve meals in the dining room and the drive-through. Members say the proceeds support the various community projects the service club takes on throughout the year.

“We constructed a shelter house at Veteran’s Park, we support the hearing impaired students with iPads, software, those kinds of things... then other various things, Christmas cheer meals, Meals on Wheels, and God’s Storehouse, all types of things that we do throughout the year.,” said Alan Davis, who has been involved in the Wapakoneta Service Club since 1985.

Volunteers say they anticipated serving around 1,000 meals throughout the day.
