A wind turbine was damaged at the Timer Road wind farm just outside of Payne yesterday. According to an eye witness, one of the three large propellers snapped, but stayed in one piece. That blade then continued its path until it struck the base of the structure, knocking loose a second blade. The damage automatically shut down the turbine. According to a representative of EDP Renewables, the turbines can operate with wind speeds up to 50 miles per hour and said that yesterday's winds were under that limit.
Representatives at EDP Renewables could not comment on an official cause for the damage as it is still under investigation. The National Weather Service reported top wind speeds of 35 miles per hour yesterday in Paulding County.
