A serial offender who evaded law enforcement for three decades has been sentenced to life in prison and finally brought to justice, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin and Licking County Sheriff Randy Thorp announced today. Robert Edwards, 68, was convicted on July 14 of the 1991 murder of Alma Lake and the 1996 murder of Michelle Dawson-Pass. Edwards was sentenced to life in prison today, without the possibility of parole for 45 years. He was also convicted as a sexually violent predator.
Aimenn D. Penny, 20, of Alliance, Ohio, was arrested and charged last year with one count of violating the Church Arson Prevention Act, one count of using fire to commit a federal felony, one count of malicious use of explosive materials, and one count of possessing a destructive device. On Oct. 23, 2023, Penny pleaded guilty to the church arson hate crime and using fire and explosives to commit a felony.
March 26, 2024 Press Release from the United States Department of Justice: TOLEDO – Samuel Kurp, age 29, of Oregon, Ohio was sentenced to thirteen years imprisonment by U.S. District Judge James R. Knepp, II after earlier pleading guilty to receipt and distribution of child pornography. Kurp was also ordered to pay $36,000 in restitution and to serve 15 years of supervised release following his release from imprisonment.
