LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) -Â It was a hair band kind of night in Lima as Dokken rocked the amphitheater and Pangle Pavilion on Thursday night.
They will be joining their current garage area with the adjacent Central Street lot to add more space to park and work on vehicles and a bus wash. A new Lima loop will also begin next year when the downtown amphitheater opens for events so that transport to and from the venue is easier and people don't have to walk.
It was announced today at the Lima Rotary that the stage at the Greater Lima Region Amphitheater will be known as the "Pangle Pavilion". Howard Pangle bought his first grocery in 1924 and his family has continued in the business world with many different opportunities. The Kriegle-Pangle family continues to make significant contributions to the Lima region.
Council has received a lot of complaints that people have been using the pods to store belongings on their property. For a 60-dollar fee, an individual can get a permit to have a pods unit on their property for no longer than 30 days. There can not be more than two units on one property. There are also rules about where the pods can be placed on the property in the city.
It was a big day as ground was broken for the new Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater. The project has been in the works for 5 years with funding coming in from state, local, and private dollars. While the preparations for the project have been spearheaded by the Lima Rotary Club the park will be owned and maintained by the City of Lima. A first of its kind within the city.
Work on the long-awaited “Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater is set to begin with phase one of the project which will include the amphitheater and restrooms. The 2.5-million dollar project is funded in part by private donations and state funding dollars. The public-private partnership is a first for the city and will provide a vibrant and versatile public park in the heart of the city.
Groundbreaking for the Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater will be Monday, April 18 at 1:15pm, immediately following the regular Monday meeting of the Lima Rotary Club. Those making comments at the groundbreaking are Ohio House Speaker Bob Cupp, Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman, Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith, Lima Rotary Club President Jeff Fitzgerald, Rotarian Rich Rudolph, Civc Center CEO Abe Ambroza, Lima Public Works Director Kirk Niemeyer.
The Lima Rotary Club has set a groundbreaking ceremony for April 18th at 1:15 pm at the future site of the amphitheater at the corner of Spring and Union streets. The public is welcome to attend. Mayor Sharetta Smith, State Senate President Matt Huffman, and Ohio Speaker Bob Cupp among others will be speaking at the event.
Council voted to approve a contract with Alvada Construction Company to construct phase 1 of the Lima Rotary Community Stage and Park Project which includes site protection, site utilities, building site preparation, and construction of the amphitheater and restrooms. The project will not exceed $2.18 million.
