Mercer Health utilizes nearly 700 units of blood on an annual basis for patients requiring transfusions to replace blood loss from surgical procedures, accidents or treatments for certain diagnoses. Mercer Health thanks the community for continuing to support local blood drives and is pleased to announce a new partnership with Community Blood Center (CBC), a regional blood bank providing blood products to 30 partner hospitals and health centers in western Ohio and eastern Indiana.

The Putnam County YMCA held an open house to thank those who made the replacement of their natatorium's HVAC system possible. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is predicting a serious spread of flu this year and is already reporting spikes in cases in several states. Allen County Public Health is also urging residents to practice more caution in order to avoid a serious spread in the local area.

In 2021 amidst the pandemic just under 3,600 units of blood was collected in Allen County. Nationally the Red Cross supplies 40% of the nation's blood supply. With the shortage of donors and blood drives and the increase in elective surgeries, some could be postponed, again.
