The Lima Salvation Army says cold temperatures and seasonal illnesses may have contributed to lower donations during its annual Red Kettle Campaign.
It may be hot outside, but the Christmas spirit was alive and well Thursday in downtown Lima. The Meeting Place on Market hosted its annual “Christmas in July” event, featuring festive music, holiday-themed beverages and sweet treats.
Lima Memorial Health System will be lacing up its running shoes this weekend. On Saturday morning, runners will come together for Lima Memorial’s second annual Milestones in Motion 5K run and walk.

In its first 23-days, Changing Seasons food pantry served 81 families consisting of 161 people. To raise money to restock the shelves they will be holding a parking lot sale similar to a garage sale this Friday from 9 am to 6 pm at their new location at 529 South Elizabeth Street. They will also be accepting non-perishable foods items and monetary donations to replenish the pantry.
The Lima Salvation Army holds a free community dinner every Sunday, and they’ve managed to continue to do so through the pandemic.
Harley Davidson of Lima and their longtime partner the Rolling Thunder Chapter 10 teamed up to put on a special trick or treat event that also raises money for the local veteran’s food pantry.
The County Line Church of the Brethren set up tables and welcomed the community in to browse through the various vendors. Handmade crafts, homemade baked goods, and products from home-based businesses were all available for purchase.
The West Ohio Food Bank set up a “pop-up” foodbank on Friday to give a little extra help to those in need. The West Ohio food bank helps over 70,000 people who find it hard making sure there’s food on the table every night and has provided more than 2.5 million meals for people in Allen County alone. Thanks to extra, unexpected shipments of food to the food bank, today they were able to give out food to those in need before this month’s scheduled food bank distribution.
The holidays can be anything but jolly for those who are having trouble getting food on the table.
