New Polar Bears got a helping hand moving in, and they're looking forward to a great start to college. Around 700 first-year students were met by Ohio Northern University upperclassmen to quickly get their things moved into their dorm rooms. Around 80% of the freshmen are coming from Ohio and mostly from the northwest region. But the rest making Ada their college home are from 16 countries and 35 states.

Bluffton University started a new year by challenging its freshmen class to find roots in something new. During the opening convocation, the University of Findlay's chair of the English department, Dr. Sarah Fedirka, talked to the Beavers about "becoming rooted." She says college is an act of letting go. Sometimes that means letting go of their old selves and old lives and finding root in new experiences, new communities, and new opportunities.

A part of being an 18-year-old means making choices that will impact the rest of your life such as possible careers and college plans, plus discovering what your passions are. For Lima resident Janya Henderson, that decision is an easy one. Henderson was just sixteen when she started her own photography business. She says the passion to pick up the camera comes from her uncle.

Monday was the kick-off of the school year with the dean's convocation. It's the first major on-campus event with a concert, games, and food. The Lima campus offers thirteen four-year degrees onsite and more than 200 majors that can be completed at the main campus in Columbus. Student life advisors are encouraging the incoming freshmen to engage, learn and thrive as they are now Buckeyes.
