The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that 12 people were killed in 11 crashes statewide during the four-day reporting period — a significant decrease from the 26 fatalities recorded during the same weekend last year.

Despite some late-morning rain, the village of Gilboa continued a 97-year tradition of honoring Blanchard Township men and women who have lost their lives while serving their country. The village held their annual parade and threw ten wreaths into the Blanchard River in honor of the ten major wars that US soldiers have lost their lives in. They then walked over the Gilboa war memorial to dedicate a bronze plaque to Captain Sheldon Hall, the only World War II Ace pilot from Putnam County and a purple heart recipient.

Families in Wapakoneta started off their Memorial Day weekend with a splash. The Wapakoneta WaterPark opened up for the summer season today. Families were allowed in from 10 am to noon and then the park was opened up to the rest of the public. While they will be open all summer to offer some relief from the heat, the park is most excited about the activities they'll have to celebrate the Summer Moon Festival.
