LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Big Brothers Big Sisters of West Central Ohio held a dinner to thank current bigs and recruit some new ones.
Mercy Health St. Rita's donated $2,000 to the Lima chapter of My Brother's Keeper through their Community Health program. The funding will help support the services they provide to youth such as mentorships and field trips. The group helps young students develop important life skills and prepares them to make good choices throughout their lives.
Each month, they will meet their mentor for holiday-themed activities for the rest of the school year. Today to celebrate fall, students made caramel apples and went on a scavenger hunt through the hiking trail at McLean Teddy Bear Park. Both the younger students and their mentors get a lot out of this program.

Transform Consulting and the Lima City Schools are teaming up for the “Transform Career Mentoring Program”. They are pairing up all the 10th graders in the district's career technology program with a career mentor. They will pair them with the student’s goals after high school with a mentor in a similar career. Organizers say they hope this program will encourage the students to stay local to build their careers.
The veteran treatment program has helped veterans who have returned home but are still struggling with issues such as PTSD, stress, and more. The program aims to have these veterans get back on the right track, while also helping them with any needs that they may have.

Ohio State Lima invited over 100 sophomores and juniors from 13 high schools to their STEM Steps program. The event shows the students the role of women in the STEM fields and how they impact the world. They also get some hands-on learning in the areas of physics, earth and computer science, and biology. The girls may have come to the campus with an interest in a STEM field, but learn there is a whole lot more to explore.
