A new initiative to match business people with high school students to create a new workforce is set to begin this fall.
Transform Consulting and the Lima City Schools are teaming up for the “Transform Career Mentoring Program”. They are pairing up all the 10th graders in the district's career technology program with a career mentor. They will pair them with the student’s goals after high school with a mentor in a similar career. Organizers say they hope this program will encourage the students to stay local to build their careers.
Doug Author of Transform Consulting says, “All of the businesses in town are struggling. The biggest problem that they are struggling with is the workforce, is talent, and finding young people. There’s no shortcut but there is a strategy called grow your own.”
They are looking for people to become career mentors and share their life experiences with the students. As a mentor, you agree to connect with your student for 5-minutes at least once a week, every week throughout their time in high school. If interested call the Lima Allen County Chamber of Commerce AT 419-222-6045.
