A program that has been a part of Lima Municipal Court has helped local veterans get the help that they need.
The veteran treatment program has helped veterans who have returned home but are still struggling with issues such as PTSD, stress, and more. The program aims to have these veterans get back on the right track, while also helping them with any needs that they may have.
Veterans who have gone through the program have also rejoined in order to help their fellow brethren.
"We have mentors assigned to them so we have fellow veterans to stand beside them, to walk them through the process," said John R. Payne, Lima Municipal Court Magistrate. "Our goal is to treat those conditions that may have led them to our court such as PTSD or alcohol, substance abuse, those things. We work with them to help them get employment if they don't have employment. We want to address the whole person when we deal with them. The goal is to not have them come back into the criminal justice system."
