DELPHOS, Ohio (WLIO) — A historic night from Cameron Elwer lifted Delphos St. John’s to a 64–44 victory over Minster, as the senior became the all-time leading scorer in the Midwest Athletic Conference.
Entering the matchup, St. John’s was looking to remain perfect on the season, while Elwer sat just 30 points shy of breaking the MAC scoring record. The Blue Jays began to create separation in the third quarter, leading by five when Elwer found his younger brother Andrew Elwer, who knocked down a three for part of his six points.
Moments later, Cole McClurg drove to the basket and scored, finishing with a team-high 10 points, as St. John’s continued to control the tempo. The lead grew to 15 after Tyce McClain buried a triple to extend the Blue Jays’ advantage.
Minster tried to answer behind Beckham Stephey, who matched the number on his jersey with 10 points, but St. John’s maintained its cushion heading into the fourth.
That’s when Elwer took over. Sitting on 26 points entering the final quarter, the Furman commit drilled a three-pointer to tie the MAC scoring record at 2,046 points, previously held by Versailles graduate Justin Ahrens. Moments later, Elwer pulled up and buried a jumper, officially claiming the record as the conference’s all-time leading scorer.
Elwer finished with a game-high 45 points, powering St. John’s to a 64–44 win and another statement victory for the two-time defending MAC champions.
