COLDWATER — The defending Division 6 state champions started their title defense in dominant fashion Friday night, as Coldwater shut out Covington 48-0 in the opening round of the postseason.
Derek Dues opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Cavaliers an early 7-0 lead. Moments later, Caleb Schroer intercepted a Buccs pass, setting up a quarterback keeper from Karsyn Homan for another score.
Coldwater’s defense stayed aggressive throughout the night, with Max Ross adding another interception to set up Homan’s second touchdown and extend the lead to 20-0.
The Cavaliers never looked back, cruising to a decisive 48-0 victory at Cavalier Stadium. Coldwater (9-1) advances to face St. Bernard-Elmwood Place in the next round of the playoffs.
