CELINA, OH — The Grand Lake Mariners were looking to snap a five-game skid Sunday night against the South Division-leading Xenia Scouts—but came up just short in a 4–3 heartbreaker.

Down 3–0 in the fifth inning and still looking for their first hit, Sam Lapping broke up the no-hitter in style—smacking a two-run double to pull the Mariners within one.

In the eighth, Grand Lake loaded the bases again. Jake Lopez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to cut it to 4–3, but the Mariners stranded the tying and go-ahead runs on base.

On the mound, Alex Dicke delivered a gutsy performance—retiring three straight batters with the bases loaded in the ninth to keep it close. The 6'5" right-hander finished with eight strikeouts in the Mariners' first complete game of the season.

In the bottom of the ninth, Grand Lake once again loaded the bases—this time with one out. But after a strikeout and a routine grounder to third, the comeback fell flat.

Final score: Scouts 4, Mariners 3. Xenia clinches the series as Grand Lake’s losing streak extends to six.
