Marion Local beats Riverdale 50-41 in Kewpee Tip-Off Classic opener

BATH — Marion Local held off Riverdale 50-41 in the opening game of the Kewpee Tip-Off Classic at Bath High School.
Riverdale opened the scoring when Marissa Bonham finished an eurostep lay-in to give the Falcons an early lead. Later in the first quarter, Marion Local’s Sophia Salazar drained an open three to cut the deficit.
In the second quarter, Riverdale trailed by four before Claire Inbody scored inside to make it 12-10. Marion Local answered with a long three from Gina Bruns and carried an 18-16 lead into halftime.
After the break, Faith Ronnebaum finished in transition for Marion Local. Riverdale’s Lauren McBride hit a three in the third quarter to make it a one-point game at 20-19. In the fourth quarter, Marion Local’s Kalyn Thobe converted a floater as the Flyers pulled away.
Marion Local’s 50-41 victory sets up a matchup with the winner of the second game between Bryan and Bath.
