MARIA STEIN, Ohio (WLIO) — The final night at The Hangar brought both history and celebration for Marion Local Flyers.

Marion Local has called The Hangar home since the 1987-88 season, compiling an all-time record of 270-113 inside the historic gym. And fittingly, the Flyers made sure the final chapter ended in the win column.

The 19-2 Van Buren Black Knights came to town for the finale, but the Flyers wasted no time setting the tone.

In the opening quarter, senior Brayden Mescher delivered a thunderous two-handed slam for the first points of the game — a symbolic start considering his uncle, Chris, scored the first points in The Hangar’s inaugural game back in 1987.

Later in the quarter, Mescher found Brennen Hess for an easy lay-in. The sophomore finished the night with 11 points.

Grant Kremer then showcased his vision, firing a strike down the court to Kale Ahrens. The junior converted the bucket and the foul, finishing with a game-high 18 points.

Van Buren tried to keep pace in the second quarter, as Brady Lance found himself open for a short basket inside.

But the Flyers continued to pull away. Kremer added a three-pointer from long distance, helping Marion Local build separation.

When the final horn sounded, it was a fitting sendoff. Marion Local closed The Hangar with a 59-39 victory, and the Flyers wrapped up their regular season with a 21-1 record.
