MARIA STEIN, Ohio (WLIO) — Two of the area’s hottest teams met Friday night at The Hangar, but it was Marion Local that continued its surge.
The Flyers, riding a six-game winning streak entering the matchup, defeated Minster 67-44 to extend their run to seven straight victories.
The Wildcats had entered the game on a seven-game winning streak of their own.
Marion Local, which has won five of the past six meetings in the series, set the tone early.
In the opening quarter, Grant Kremer delivered a bounce pass to Brayden Mescher, who scored off the glass to give the Flyers an early three-point lead.
Kremer later showcased his range, knocking down a 3-pointer as part of a 12-point performance.
Minster answered behind Cole Albers, a Hillsdale College commit, who scored a game-high 19 points. Albers also found Beckham Stephey open on the perimeter for a 3-pointer that trimmed the deficit to four.
Before the end of the first quarter, Marion Local moved the ball efficiently, leading to an easy basket by Kale Ahrens, who paced the Flyers with 16 points.
Later in the game, Luke Everman added to the highlight reel with a 3-pointer as Marion Local steadily pulled away.
With the win, the Flyers improved to 17-1 overall, maintaining momentum as the postseason approaches.
