UNDATED (AP) — Texas has returned to the top 10 in The Associated Press college football poll. The Longhorns, ranked No. 10, are set to visit No. 5 Georgia this week. They had dropped out of the top 25 after losing to Florida several weeks ago. Ohio State remains No. 1, followed by Indiana, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Georgia. The ACC has five teams ranked, including Georgia Tech and Miami. The Group of Five conferences are represented by James Madison and South Florida.
WACO, Texas (AP) — Cameron Carr hit three 3-pointers and finished with 16 points to lead six Baylor players scoring in double figures and the Bears beat Washington 78-69. Tounde Yessoufou scored 13 points for Baylor (2-0) and Caden Powell added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Dan Skillings Jr. and Isaac Williams scored 12 points apiece and Michael Rataj finished with 11. Zoom Diallo led Washington (2-1) with 15 points and Quimari Peterson, who made 1 of 9 from 3-point range, scored 11. Hannes Steinbach, a 6-foot-11 freshman, had 10 points and 15 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double. Rataj converted a three-point play and Carr made a 3-pointer in a 12-2 run that made it 25-19 with 7:43 left in the first half and Baylor (1-0) led the rest of the way.
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Olivia Miles had 22 points and nine assists, Donovyn Hunter added 20 points and six assists, and the No. 17 TCU women beat Sam Houston 88-46. Miles, a graduate transfer from Notre Dame, made 8 of 11 from the field and Hunter was 7of-11 shooting, 5 of 8 from 3-point range, for TCU (2-0), which shot 58% overall and limited the Bearkats to 29% (19 of 66) shooting. Silva scored six points as TCU opened the game with a 13-0 run — as Sam Houston missed its first eight shots and went scoreless for the first five-plus minutes — and led by double figures for the final 33 1/2 minutes. Fanta Kone led Sam Houston (1-1) with 13 points and Aysia Ward-Strong scored 10.
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Achol Akot had 23 points and 10 rebounds, leading seven in double-figure scoring, and No. 22 Oklahoma State routed Oral Roberts 112-62. Jadyn Wooten compiled 14 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Cowgirls. Micah Gray scored 14 points, Stailee Heard and Amari Whiting 13 each, Lena Girardi 12 and Haleigh Timmer 10. Jalei Oglesby scored 24 points for Oral Roberts. The Cowgirls scored a school-record 37 points in the first quarter on 79% shooting. Oklahoma State led 64-28 at halftime and 91-43 after three quarters.
UNDATED (AP) — James Madison of the Sun Belt Conference would represent the Group of Five in the College Football Playoff on the mock bracket based on the new Associated Press Top 25. Georgia Tech and Texas would be among the 12 teams again. The CFP committee will release its second rankings of the season on Tuesday night. No. 24 James Madison is the highest-ranked G5 team in the AP poll. Memphis dropped off the bracket after losing to Tulane. The top four seeds on the mock bracket did not change. The SEC has five of the 12 teams on the mock bracket.
UNDATED (AP) — Texas Tech’s 29-7 win over BYU and losses by Virginia and Louisville were the biggest shakeups in the FBS conference races this week. Also, San Diego State’s 38-6 loss at Hawaii may have been the last straw for the Mountain West’s hopes of putting a team in the playoff. Memphis was dealt a devastating blow in the American Athletic Conference, falling at home in a showdown with Tulane.
STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Christian Coleman scored 16 points and Oklahoma State defeated Texas A&M 87-63 in a non-conference matchup between power conference teams. Isaiah Coleman and Vyctorius Miller added 15 points each, Jaylen Curry 12 and Parsa Fallah 10 for the Cowboys. Marcus Hill was the only Aggie in double digit scoring, with 14 points. Texas A&M shot 32% and made only 9 of 35 3-pointers. The Cowboys shot 66.7% over the first 10 1/2 minutes of the second half and increased their 14-point halftime lead to 71-46 with 9 1/2 minutes remaining. They led by at least 20 points the rest of the way and a 7-0 spurt gave them their largest lead, 87-59, with less than two minutes remaining.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Brenen Lorient scored a career-high 26 to propel West Virginia to a 69-47 victory over Lehigh. Lorient sank 11 of 15 shots from the floor for the Mountaineers (3-0), including 3 of 4 from 3-point range. The 6-foot-9 senior forward added seven rebounds and three steals. Harlan Obioha totaled 12 points and eight rebounds. Lorient scored seven points in a 16-2 run to begin the game for West Virginia and the Mountaineers breezed to a 42-20 lead at halftime after leading by as many as 26. Lorient led all scorers with 13 on 5-for-6 shooting at the break. Urosevic topped Lehigh (1-2) with 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting with four 3-pointers.
