ADA — Local talent was on display Friday night at the ONU Sports Center, where Ohio Northern erased a halftime deficit and outlasted Heidelberg 86-82 in overtime.
The Polar Bears got on the board early with contributions from former Ottawa-Glandorf standout Theo Maag, who showcased strong footwork and finished with eight points in 18 minutes. ONU also showed its range early as Conye Gaston knocked down a three-pointer to keep the Polar Bears within one in the opening minutes.
Pandora-Gilboa graduate Aiden Harris helped spark the Ohio Northern offense with a fadeaway jumper and later added a three, finishing with 13 points. Ottoville native Will Miller added to the local flavor, using a quick first step to beat his defender for a layup during a strong first half performance.
Despite those efforts, Heidelberg controlled the first half and carried a 41-24 lead into the break.
Ohio Northern stormed back in the second half behind a game-high 25 points from Miller, steadily chipping away at the deficit before forcing overtime. In the extra session, the Polar Bears completed the comeback to secure the 86-82 victory.
With the win, Ohio Northern improved to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
