SHAWNEE (WLIO) - Shawnee pulled out a 13-10 win over Elida on Friday night in a Western Buckeye League matchup defined by defense. Both teams entered at 1-1 overall, with Shawnee improving to 2-1 and Elida falling to 1-2.

The Bulldogs struck first after a scoreless opening quarter. Quarterback Jonah Snyder dropped back and lofted a 26-yard touchdown pass to Kohen Sullivan early in the second, putting Elida ahead 7-0.

Shawnee’s defense kept the game within reach, highlighted by Chase DePalma’s interception and pressure that slowed down the Bulldogs. Elida’s defense responded with key plays of its own, including a backfield stop by Aaryn Dailey to stall a Shawnee drive.

Quarterback JJ Spyker eventually sparked the Indians’ offense, extending plays with his legs and connecting with Reese Davidson on a crucial completion. With less than a minute left, Spyker found Jarin Bagley for the go-ahead touchdown pass.

Shawnee’s late surge sealed the 13-10 victory, giving the Indians an early conference win while Elida came up just short on the road.
