Shawnee held off Ottawa-Glandorf 50-47 on Hoops Friday Night to secure the outright WBL title. One of the two programs has now won the league crown in each of the last nine seasons.
The Indians led 35-30 in the third quarter after Beckett Bertke scored two of his 15 points on a transition finish.
In the fourth, Trevick Bertke delivered the biggest plays of the night. The senior threw down a two-handed dunk to extend Shawnee’s lead and later added a key putback during a 4-0 run that pushed the advantage to six.
Ottawa-Glandorf rallied behind Jordan Schumaker, who knocked down a three-pointer and added a pull-up jumper to trim the deficit to two. The Titans later cut it to three with 35 seconds remaining after a bucket from Brody Fortman.
Free throws proved to be the difference. Trevick Bertke finished with a game-high 24 points and sealed the win at the line. Ottawa-Glandorf missed a pair of late free throws, and Shawnee secured the final inbound to close it out.
With the win, Shawnee claims the outright Western Buckeye League championship.
