KALIDA, OH — After surviving a four-hour, 17-16 marathon against Bath, the Kalida Wildcats returned to the diamond Sunday night to face St. Henry in the ACME Baseball State Semifinals. A spot in Monday's championship game against Defiance was on the line.

St. Henry struck first and never looked back.

In the top of the fifth, the Redskins led 2-0 when Jake Schwieterman delivered a single to right field that scored Tate Boeckman. Moments later, Austin Zimmerman followed with a clutch two-out hit to center that brought home both Schwieterman and Owen Zimmerman, capping off a five-run inning.

Kalida didn’t go down quietly. The Wildcats answered with three runs of their own. Jaxon Hoffman reached on a fielder’s choice that brought home Logan Kerner. Nathan Kahle later beat out another fielder’s choice, allowing Griffin Klausing to score and trimming the deficit to 7-3.

But the Redskins had the final say. Boeckman added one more RBI with a base hit in the seventh, scoring the eighth and final run for St. Henry.

Final score: St. Henry 8, Kalida 4.

With the win, St. Henry punches its ticket to the ACME State Championship Game, where the Redskins will face Defiance on Monday at 7 p.m. back in Kalida.
