Shawnee — A Midwest Athletic Conference and Western Buckeye League crossover lived up to the hype Friday night as St. Henry held off Shawnee 66–64 at Lappin Gymnasium.
The Redskins took control early behind Max Delzeith, who buried a three-pointer to help St. Henry build a 22–11 lead after the first quarter. The momentum carried into the second, with junior Tate Boeckman knocking down a smooth jumper as the Redskins continued to extend the margin.
Shawnee responded with a spark of its own, as Findlay commit Beckett Bertke connected from beyond the arc. Moments later, the Indians applied pressure defensively, with JJ Spyker coming away with a steal and firing a long outlet pass ahead to Trevick Bertke for a two-handed dunk that brought the crowd to life.
Still, St. Henry answered again. Jack Huelsman cut inside for a basket as the Redskins pushed their lead to 17 by halftime. Shawnee battled back in the second half and made it a one-possession game down the stretch.
In the end, St. Henry was able to hang on, securing the 66–64 victory over the Indians.
