FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) — Southview held off a late rally from Wapakoneta to secure a 47-45 victory in a Division III district semifinal doubleheader Thursday at Liberty-Benton High School, ending the Redskins’ season.
Wapakoneta trailed 20-16 at halftime but stayed within striking distance behind key plays from senior Blake Rogers and Caleb Moyer.
Rogers sparked the offense in the second quarter, collecting the ball and drilling a 3-pointer to keep the Redskins within reach before the break.
In the second half, Wapakoneta continued to chip away at the deficit. Moyer cut the margin to five points with a layup, helping the Redskins maintain momentum as the game moved into the final quarter.
Late in the fourth, Rogers delivered again from long range, knocking down a 3-pointer that pulled Wapakoneta within three points with 17 seconds remaining.
With the score tightened to a two-point game in the closing seconds, the Redskins had one final chance to tie or take the lead. But the last-second attempt missed at the buzzer, sealing the 47-45 win for Southview.
The loss ends Wapakoneta’s season with a 16-8 overall record.
