Over the past 24 hours, St. Marys city employees were unpacking their boxes and setting up their offices inside the brand new St. Marys municipal building located just across the St. Marys river from the old building. The first floor will house the city's general service departments, including the mayor, council chambers, public service, auditor, treasurer, and more. The second floor will be space for non-profits to use, with the third floor housing the engineering department.

The city says the move is much needed as the old building has served its purpose over the years.

"We're really excited; it's a great time and for our community. This is a much-needed asset," stated Mayor Joe Hurlburt Jr., City of St. Marys. "Our old building is just not practical anymore to use. I mean, I don't know how many times it's flooded, and I'm sure there's a lot of mold issues in the building, and it's been a very good building, but I think it's just outworn its use, and so obviously the move was necessary over here."
