LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The 8th-grade students at Liberty Arts have initiated a project for the veterans scheduled to go on the Honor Flight on November 7th.

Honor Flight is a nationally recognized organization that takes American veterans to the capital city of Washington D.C. to visit memorials commemorating their services. This provides an opportunity to honor and celebrate their sacrifices for their country. After takeoff, the veterans are presented with mail filled with letters from their loved ones, friends, and even strangers from all over the country who thank them for their service. The students at Liberty Arts are contributing to this mail haul by coloring pictures and writing letters for the veterans.

"Mike Melvin works with the SOS project to do this for the veterans and he asked on Facebook for teachers to help write letters of thank yous and appreciation to the veterans so I thought this was a good way for the students to learn and appreciate what the veterans have done for them,"Â
