The process has begun for hundreds of Lima City School 8th graders to determine what they want to study when they reach high school.

The students got the chance to see all 12 of the career tech programs that are offered at Lima Senior, including early childhood education, graphic communications, and auto technology. They heard not only from instructors but also from upperclassmen on why they chose to enter their career tech program.

"I have younger brothers and sisters and I loved working with them, I babysat and then I just chose early childhood education because it's just nice to know I'm going to work with the next few generations and teach them how to grow," said Claire Mericle, junior early childhood education.

"They go through the application process that's why we try to get them interested in the 8th grade so that by the time their sophomores they've had the chance to think about and know which class they would be interested in," explained Wanda Miller, LSH career tech coordinator.

"Today I actually was walking around to see what career tech that I would be interested in for high school," said Isaac Gaberdiel, Lima West 8th grader.

"I like graphics, the graphics a lot cause you get to create stuff and make stuff for people," commented Sundra Branch, Lima West 8th grader.

70% of Lima Senior students are enrolled in a career tech program earning certifications, college credits with job shadowing, and early job placement opportunities.
