The Allen Lima Youth Leadership group is preparing for their final project of the year.
The Allen Lima Youth Leadership group meets every Friday, and today they gathered at UNOH to sharpen their public speaking skills as the students have been preparing to set up their impact service projects on a topic of their choosing. The topics range from drug addiction to poverty. The groups will then present their final projects to the Lima Rotary Club on Monday, April 29th, and the winning project will then receive a grant to put their project into action and provide aid to the community.
Allen Lima Leadership executive director Matt Childers has seen the growth in the youth group throughout the year and is excited to see them put their skills to the test.
"I think what it's gonna look like to them is what it's gonna look like in real life going down the road. They're gonna have to present; they've had to cooperate to get all of these pieces of the puzzle together for the presentation. And the other thing is the Rotarians will be really advocating for them; they'll be rooting for them, and it'll be a great connection for them to have going forward because those are the folks that are looking to place folks in jobs, and these young adults are only 4 years away, 5 years away from being in the job, in the workforce," stated Matt Childers, executive director of Allen Lima Leadership.
"Well, I think it's gonna be a very wonderful experience. I know they're all rooting for us up there, and as for the group, I think our group will be ready by the date, and it should be a very, I think it'll be a very very exciting experience. So our group project is fighting substance abuse in youth and preadolescence. It is called 'SASA', Students Against Substance Abuse, and I think that it will touch many of the Rotarians' hearts so," commented Jack Buell, a sophomore from Pandora-Gilboa.
The ALL youth class of 2023–24 will also graduate from the program on the day of their impact project presentations on April 29th.
