LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities recently announced new changes in future leadership.
Super Intendent Theresa Schnipke has announced that the Allen County Board of DD has begun preparations to pursue a shared superintendent with the Auglaize County Board of Developmental Disabilities as Schnipke nears her retirement. On August 1st, 2024, Auglaize County Board of DD Superintendent Renee Kohler will head the shared superintendent role for both counties. On Tuesday afternoon, we talked with Schnipke about how the shared superintendent system will work.
"The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Auglaize County will retain their own superintendent with Renee Kohler serving in both roles, but many of the duties of the superintendent involve all the counties. So, when she is at state and regional, she's representing both counties. Then, locally, she'll be in each of our counties the same amount of days and times, meeting the needs of the local. The agencies will remain separate—separate logos, addresses, everything the same," says Theresa Schnipke, Superintendent, Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
The shared superintendent announcement comes after the Allen County Board of DD named Tyson Goings as the board's next superintendent, but he will no longer fill that role. We also asked Schnipke why Goings would not lead the board.
"We had to pivot a little several months ago when we made the application for Tyson to become the superintendent. He didn't have the year qualification that was needed for the certification, so Tyson is still here. He's in a different role called Family Consultant and doing great, so we're continuing to support him and his journey and his future in whatever that may be, and hopefully he has a long career in DD," adds Schnipke.
Schnipke also adds that she will be assisting Kohler part-time in the transition through the end of the year.
