LIMA, OH (WLIO) -Â With a couple of snowfalls under our belt, the winter is upon us. Even though we may be used to it, some of our furry friends may not be.
Things like sweaters, taking shorter walks in the cold, and checking in with your veterinarian can all make a big difference.
The Allen County Dog Warden wants to remind people of some precautions you can take to keep your pet healthy and warm during the harsh conditions. Things like sweaters, taking shorter walks in the cold, and checking in with your veterinarian can all make a big difference.
"Check their feet. Check for any salt that might have gotten in there, the sidewalk salts. Ice gets in the pads and freezes in there and makes it a little ice ball. So check that; wipe their feet off. Make sure you know what's going on with them. The hair can be a little deceiving; make sure your pet is getting enough good quality food," says Julie Shellhammer, Allen County Dog Warden.
She also reminds dog owners to get their dog tags for 2025. You can get an application off the Allen County Ohio Auditor's website and stop in the dog warden's office to pick up your dog tags. Prices will double on January 31st after the deadline.
